Wine area - Alsace
Alsace is one of the most important regions in the world in terms of winemaking. Located in the northeast of the country bordering Germany, bathed by the Rhine River and protected by the Vosges, which keeps away rainfall and oceanic influence. With this, the vineyards planted on the eastern slope of the mountain range obtain high hours of sunshine, thus favoring the optimal ripening of the grapes. There are up to 13 types of soils, but two predominant, calcareous and marl with granite, the former ideal for fresh and direct wines, and the latter gives wines with a great aging capacity. The most important varieties are Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat, all of which are white. The particularity of the territory is that due to the wars that France and Germany have maintained, it has received invasions from both, developing a style of wines very different from the rest of the country. This own identity is what makes its wines unique.
