The latest vintage of Aalto, one of the best and most prestigious Spanish red wines produced in Ribera del Duero. Created by the oenologist Mariano García, this Tinta Fina monovarietal is produced from old vines aged from 40 to over 100 years.
The grapes are harvested by hand after a meticulous classification process, both in the field and in the winery. The grapes were vinified separately according to their plot of origin. The alcoholic fermentation and maceration was carried out inside stainless steel truncated-cone tanks. Subsequently, the best musts were transferred to 50% new and 50% used French and American oak barrels, where the malolactic fermentation was completed.
Finally, Aalto, produced by Bodegas y Viñedos Aalto, was aged for 16 months in these barrels. It was bottled and aged for a minimum of 2 months in the bottle before being marketed.
We suggest that this red wine from Ribera del Duero be decanted a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
This red reserve wine will improve during many years in the bottle.
Tasting Note:
Appearance: The Aalto wine has a bright and intense cherry colour with a ruby edge.
Nose: Elegant and sophisticated, this wine by Mariano Garcia suggests some pure and tempting aromas of black and red fruits and abundant herbal and balsamic aromas, well intertwined with fragrances of flowers, spices, vanilla and toast. When this Reserva opens, the parade continues with cocoa, mocha, pepper, tobacco and some mineral tones.
Palate: Bold and complex, this Tinta Fina varietal is both a reality and a promise. Juicy flavours of red and black fruits, some creamy nuances, deep mineral suggestions, a panoply of spices and, above all, an exceptional freshness and a phenomenal texture. The Ribera del Duero Aalto has first-class acidity, firm tannins that still need time to fully integrate and a very long and rewarding finish.
